Meet The Team Series | Kat Minney Q&A | Facilities Manager

Kat Minney – Facilities Manager, joined MRS in 2021 as Help Desk Coordinator promoted as Facilities Manager in July of this year, based in our Adelaide office.

Q: What does your role entail?
My role is to oversee the upkeep and day-to-day operation of several properties, making sure everything runs smoothly and looks well-presented. I am responsible for supervising contractors to ensure maintenance and services are carried out efficiently, handling tenant maintenance requests, and keeping all safety and compliance requirements up to date. I also review service contracts as needed and help plan capital works and special projects.

Q: What do you find the most enjoyable aspect of your role?
I really enjoy the variety of the work – no two days are ever the same. I like that the role gives me flexibility and constant opportunities to learn new things. I also enjoy the challenges that come with finding solutions that work well for everyone involved and hopefully make a positive difference to their day.

Q: Who inspired you to pursue the career you have today? How so?
Before joining MRS, I spent over a decade working for a Big 4 professional services firm, managing a small team responsible for mailroom operations, records management, and premises services for their Adelaide offices. I discovered I really enjoyed the premises management aspect, and since the site was managed by MRS, I had the chance to work closely with David Hossen, Mike Elgar, and Sharon Campbell. That experience gave me a strong foundation in facilities operations, compliance, and team leadership within a fast-paced corporate environment.

When the Helpdesk role at MRS came up, it felt like the perfect opportunity to learn more about the company and eventually transition into the Facilities side of the business. David, Mike, and Sharon inspired me to take that step — they gave me the confidence to pursue this path, believing I’d be a great fit and encouraging me to explore the opportunities it could offer. Now, 4½ years later, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited to take on a new challenge.

Q: What was the last book you read?
The last book I read was “I Don’t Need Therapy – and Other Lies I’ve Told Myself” by Toni Lodge. It’s a funny and relatable read that mixes humour with honest reflections on life, relationships, and self-awareness. It was light, enjoyable, and easy to get into — I really liked it and would definitely recommend it.

Q: What is your biggest achievement outside of work?
My biggest achievement outside of work is raising my two kids, who are 16 and 12. I’m really proud of the strong relationship I have with both of them – they know that no matter what’s happening in their lives, they can always come to me and we’ll work through it together. I’ve definitely been tested at times, but I’m always grateful for the opportunity to show them that I’m in their corner and have their back no matter what.
